the story behind the as special as can be series
Why I wrote the As Special As Can Be Series
Every child deserves to hear it, whispered softly, spoken boldly, said again and again: You are as special as can be, just the way God made you.
That truth is the heartbeat behind the As Can Be series.
As I travel and speak in elemntary school assemblies, middle, highschools and colleges, I watch it happen. Little ones and young hearts alike, quietly wondering if they are enough. If their gifts are seen. If they truly belong. These books were born from that moment, offered gently, the way only a story can, because sometimes the deepest truths find us best in the turning of a page.
And oh, the parents too. They need these words just as much as their little ones curled beside them.
As Special As Can Be sings of the beautiful, one-of-a-kind way each of us is made. As Colorful As Can Be blooms with the quiet gifts of patience and endurance, colors that only deepen with time. As Cuddly As Can Be tucks little hearts safely into the warmth of God’s protection and love.
What I speak from platforms, these pages whisper at bedtime, the very same truth, in the sweetest, smallest words.
Somewhere, there is a child waiting to hear it. Somewhere, there is a parent who needs the reminder, too. These books were written for both of them, and perhaps, a little, for you.

Common Questions
What event planners usually want to know.
For Churches
Who is Paula Mensah-Woode?
Paula Mensah-Woode is a speaker, author, and women’s ministry leader based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She has over 20 years of experience in women’s ministry and has spoken at graduation ceremonies, women’s retreats, church conferences, marriage events, and school campuses across the United States and internationally. She is also a Biological Scientist with emphasis in Microbiology, a daily TV broadcaster on FOX 21 and SOCO CW, and a Bestselling author with several published books.
Is Paula’s content theologically appropriate for our denomination?
Every message is Christ-centred, rooted in Scripture, and accompanied by real testimony. Paula respects each church’s culture and is happy to discuss your community before booking.
Is Paula available for women’s retreats and women’s ministry events?
Absolutely. Women’s retreats, women’s day services, and women’s ministry conferences are a core part of Paula’s speaking ministry. With over 20 years of women’s ministry leadership, she brings messages on identity in Christ, faith, purpose, and overcoming life’s challenges — always rooted in Scripture and delivered with warmth and authenticity. She has ministered at women’s events locally in Colorado and internationally, including in Africa and Asia. She is available for full-day retreats, single keynote sessions, workshop panels, and multi-day conferences and media appearances.
What is Paula’s experience as a Christian Women’s Ministry Speaker?
Paula was first entrusted with leading and mentoring over 400 women more than 25 years ago. She had no idea at the time that she would be learning just as much as she poured out. Over the years, as she has led young mothers’ Bible studies and ministered in various congregations, she has also shared on dating in a way that honors God. Through it all, her love for God has only deepened. Out of that overflow, she is passionate about helping women grow closer to the One who loves them immeasurably.
What types of events does Paula minister at?
Women’s retreats, marriage events, Sunday services, church conferences, mid-week meetings, and international ministry events. She has also spoken alongside her husband, Pastor Paul, on their daily SOCO CW and FOX 21 broadcast.
How do I book Paula

Which books has Paula written?
aula is the author and co-author of multiple published works: Biblical Healing (available in English, Spanish, Burmese, Telegu, French, Marathi, and Hindi and Chewa), Biblical Answers & Guidance for New Christians (Amazon best-seller), the Order My Steps Journal & Planner for men and women, and a children’s book series including As Special As Can Be, As Colorful As Can Be, As Cuddly As Can Be. She has also created multiple Bible reading plans. Books are available on Amazon and through this website.
For Schools & Colleges
What is Paula’s communication style at schools and colleges as a Keynote Speaker?
At schools and colleges, Paula brings the same authenticity she carries everywhere — but in a very different style from her ministry work. Rather than scripture-heavy teaching, her school talks centre on parables, real-life stories, and applied wisdom. It’s the power of a meaningful message without the form of a sermon, which means every student in the room — regardless of background — can fully connect with it.
What is Paula’s hands-on experience inside schools — beyond speaking?
Paula’s school experience goes far deeper than the stage. She has served as a governance voice and a strategic advisor at the highest levels of school leadership.
As a School Accountability Committee (SAC) member for 8 consecutive years and a member of several school boards and principal advisory boards, Paula was embedded in the governance, reviewing academic performance data, advising on school improvement plans, and holding school leadership accountable to community and state standards.
How does Paula’s science and teaching background shape her school presentations in STEM Schools?
Paula holds credentials as a Biological Scientist with an emphasis in Microbiology — a background that gives her an immediate, authentic connection with STEM-focused students and faculty that most speakers simply cannot replicate. She speaks the language of science educators, understands how academic pressure feels from the inside, and challenges students toward excellence with a precision and credibility that goes beyond motivation. For schools focused on science, technology, and academic rigor, Paula’s scientific background is a natural bridge between her message and her audience.
What was the motivation for the book As Special as Can Be?
As Special As Can Be carries a message that deeply resonates with parents. Living in Colorado, where the suicide rate is among the highest in the nation (about 20.8 per 100,000), this message feels especially important.
Many young parents encounter moments that challenge their understanding of identity and worth. It becomes clear that success isn’t just about achievements—it’s about knowing one’s value, regardless of others’ talents.
This book beautifully reminds children that they are valuable just as they are, and that each person can celebrate who they were created to be.
Why should we book Paula rather than a standard motivational speaker?
Paula is a school insider. When she speaks to your students and or staff, she speaks as someone who understands academic pressure, school culture, student development, and what it actually takes to help young people succeed — not as an outsider looking in.
What age groups does Paula speak to?
Elementary school, Middle school, High school, and college students. Her content is always age-appropriate, and she tailors her message to your grade range, event theme, and school goals.
Where is Paula Located? How far ahead does she travel?
Paula is based in Colorado; however, she often travels to states such as Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, and across the USA. She also travels internationally.
